India’s star spinner Varun Chakravarthy recently responded to Rohit Sharma’s remark about his bowling style. Before India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh, Rohit had stated that Chakravarthy “bowls only one kind of variety.” The comment gained traction, and fans were eager to hear Chakravarthy’s response.
“Bowling in practice sessions differs significantly from bowling in an actual match. My strategy in the nets is to focus on precision rather than showcasing variations,” Chakravarthy clarified in an interview.
Chakravarthy also spoke about his close relationship with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The two have shared the dressing room at Dindigul Dragons during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024. Their camaraderie has helped Chakravarthy refine his skills and approach.
Despite the perception that he lacks variations, Chakravarthy explained that he adapts his bowling to match situations rather than showcasing all his skills during practice.
Chakravarthy believes that Rohit’s statement was taken out of context. He revealed that in net sessions, bowlers are often instructed to focus on consistency rather than excessive experimentation.
“I have variations, but I use them when needed. I don’t try everything in the nets because match conditions demand a different mindset,” Chakravarthy asserted.
Before India’s final group-stage match against New Zealand, Ashwin predicted that Chakravarthy would replace Harshit Rana in the playing XI. His prediction turned out to be accurate, further proving Ashwin’s keen cricketing insight.
Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling style is strategic rather than predictable. While some may believe he lacks variety, his controlled approach makes him a valuable asset to the Indian team. His bond with Ashwin and his match-day strategies prove that he is much more than a one-dimensional bowler.
As the tournament progresses, Chakravarthy aims to silence his critics and showcase his full range of skills when it truly matters.
