Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has come under intense scrutiny following Pakistan’s humiliating series defeat against New Zealand. Former cricketer Kamran Akmal did not hold back in his criticism and urged Naqvi to step down if he cannot bring about meaningful changes to the men’s cricket team.
Pakistan’s struggles on the international stage deepened after the Mohammad Rizwan-led squad failed to defend an early 2-0 lead in the ODI series. The team’s underwhelming performances resulted in an 84-run defeat in the final match, sealing another disappointing series loss. This defeat follows a poor T20I series and an early exit from their Champions Trophy title defense, raising serious concerns about the team’s direction.
Akmal expressed his frustration, stating that Pakistan’s recent performances were nothing short of embarrassing. He emphasized that if Mohsin Naqvi is unable to bring the team back on track, he should resign rather than continue overseeing its decline.
“Resign, don’t ruin Pakistan cricket any further. If you cannot improve the team’s performance, step down and let someone more capable take charge,” Akmal said while addressing the media.
Several factors have contributed to Pakistan’s recent failures:
With major tournaments on the horizon, Pakistan must quickly address these concerns. The PCB faces pressure to make significant changes in team management, selection policies, and overall strategy. The team’s ability to bounce back will depend on how swiftly these issues are resolved.
The call for change is growing louder, with former players and fans demanding accountability from the PCB. Whether Mohsin Naqvi will heed Kamran Akmal’s advice and step down or take decisive steps to improve Pakistan cricket remains to be seen. One thing is certain—Pakistan cricket cannot afford another disappointing campaign.
